In this role, you'll assist passengers with professionalism and care, collect and record tolls, and support the safe operation of the vessel through routine safety checks, emergency preparedness, and active participation as a designated crew member in accordance with Coast Guard requirements.This posting may fill multiple positions. Minimum Qualifications No experience or training is required.NOTE:Possession of a current Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) may be required at the time of appointment. Job Duties and Other InformationJob Duties:As a Ferryboat Deckhand 1, 2 or 3, you'll help create a positive first impression for every person who enters the ferry. In this role, you will:Classifies vehicles and registers class and axles of each vehicle boarding the vessel, collects appropriate toll, process change and issues receiptsCompletes vessel passenger and vehicle count sheets. Performs security and safety checks on vehicles boarding, while underway and departing the vessel. Serves as "Designated Member of the Crew" in accordance with the requirement of the vessels Coast Guard Certificates of Inspection.Operates emergency equipment such as firefighting hoses, fire extinguishers, rescue boats, life rings, floats, in drills actual emergencies.Serves as "lookout" to assist in safe navigation and handles lines in recovery of vessels adrift.Position-Specific Details:Appointment Type: Probational or PromotionalWork Schedule: Work hours are based on a 7 days on and 7 days offCareer Progression: As part of Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Ferryboat Deckhand 1, 2 or 3 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).
